Consumer Reviews
So..... Myself and a few co-workers decided to make these helicopters portion of our down time while over here in the middle of nowhere... We have a number of about the shop perfect now, and I purchased this a single...... the other guys all spent about $20 on theirs.... the Syma 107, 108 and 109... that is the Sport, Cobra, and Apache... and I spent $40 on this one when it was on sale (now it really is $50). This ones handling doesn't even come close to comparing to theirs... I read up alot more on the evaluations, and for some reason every person says it's superb, but I am thinking they've just never ever attempted the Symas. I even ordered yet another knuckle that holds the stabilizer bar to the top rotor, (only came with one particular), in hopes that it may perhaps make it extra stable and manageable.. it didn't... Also, right after crashing about 15 occasions, the tail rotor snapped off at the bottom of the curve... I superglued it back on about 4 instances, and then drilled holes on either side of the crack and safety wired it back on, and superglued once more :) gotta say, it has held up well after all the crashes, and it is manageable to fly, and IT SHOOTS MISSLES which is the main benefit over the Symas........... but general.... the Symas are most certainly much more agile, and effortlessly controlled (3 I named anyways), and the batteries last a little longer, and they are WAY quieter, and for much less than half the value, I feel I would have just gone with 1 of those.
I upped it to a four star, only due to the fact it has withstood a major beating, and it shoots missles. It did require the repair of the tail rotor tho, and it does not deal with as fine as it must for the price. and it's loud.
I owned the Syma 108 before I bought this a single. My assessment will compare in between the two.
Cons:
1)Compared to Syma this 1 flies like a fat cow. Rotating left and perfect is highly responsive but forward and reverse takes like 5 seconds to kick in soon after you move the control which is actually annoying and prone to crashes. The altitude adjustment response is also poor.
2)This 1 is considerably noisier. Sounds like a flying lawnmower.
3)Also the left throttle utilised to manage altitude is not spring loaded to throttle down when released like Syma which makes it harder to manage the altitude. (A small workaround of tying a rubber band to the throttle stick and anchoring the other end on the bottom of the controller helped. This keeps the tension on the throttle in the downward direction, which automatically pulls the throttle down when you release. This helps manage the altitude substantially far better.)
4)Nearly double the price of Syma.
Pros:
1)Fires Missiles!
Not so enjoyable for my cat but super enjoyable for me. I am planing to modify the mechanism to hopefully squirt water instead.
I wish the Syma had this choice.
2)Nicely constructed. The supplies put to use to make this a single feel even more solid then the Syma.
