Consumer Critiques
I bought this toy for my son and myself, and I have to say I have been well pleased with its construction, durability and functionality. The toy has taken a number of tough crashes into buildings, concrete, and trees -- so its tuff, damn tuff, but how nicely does it fly? Firstly, its much more a powerful bird as compared to any of the little battery powered helicopters I have previously bought or observed. It flies high, 100 feet and it demands a lot of space to definitely appreciate flying it. You can fly it in the backyard, but I uncover I spend additional time worrying about crashing it into the property than actually getting fun.
The gyro's maintain the copter level and give pinpoint turning -- Meaning that It spins around though hovering in mid-air. The flight challenge is to preserve the copter's hight steady, when moving the copter forward. Once more, turning is not an issue, its balancing the hight and forward direction that is tricky. One particular reviewer mentioned that it will not fly forward or backward nonetheless this is not the case. Right after a couple of days of practice both my 9 year old and I could pilot the copter reasonably well. I got about 15 minutes of flying time for each hour of charging. With the high finding out curve this can make for some frustration. Is it worth getting? Yeah, its enjoyable, and my son and I got a significant kick out of it -- particularly at night as it lights up! But, personally I wondered if it may possibly not be worth it to invest a little even more revenue and invest in a bigger copter that is easer to fly.
Bottom Line: This copter is enjoyable, sturdy, will and may possibly well satisfy your desires -- if you put some time in studying to fly it.
To begin with R/C helicopter I've ever owned -- not new to the R/C scene, although (and I have a really good understanding of how real helicopters fly and operate). It took me a tiny receiving employed to (hence the "difficult for beginners" comment), but simple to master (hence the "simple and easy for intermediates" comment).
A lot of the other reviews have covered most of the troubles -- here are my further thoughts:
- Flies pretty nicely perfect out of the box -- continuously desires to be trimmed on the rotational axis and, as someone else noted, maintaining height/hover control is a bit challenging.
- The Rapid/Slow toggle switch is really good for controlling your speed indoors (use the Slow setting). I've yet to fly this outdoors (darned winter...mid-December 2010 as I write this), so haven't really tried the Swift setting. It does seem to fly noticeably quicker in the Fast setting.
- Only real negative that I've encountered so far (prevented this from getting a complete five-star rating in my book) is that the top quality control is a touch lacking -- a single of the wires soldered onto the On/Off switch came loose on the 2nd flight, requiring me to have to re-solder the wire (and asking for my wife's aid, as it was seriously a 3-hand operation).
And it looks like I got a deal, the price appears to have gone up by about $20 because I purchased it!
